Double power in Lake Constance.

In Lindau, two Weidemann machines make an important contribution to the community. Both machines are used daily, both on the mainland and on the island of Lindau on Lake Constance. So, in addition to a large 5080T wheel loader, the district town on the eastern shore of Lake Constance has also been using the compact Hoftrac 1160 since the beginning of 2018.

5080T for heavy materials handling.

The first Weidemann was delivered to the depot in 2016. The 5080T was going to handle the heavy work involved. This mainly includes various loading operations from road salt to gravel and palletized goods. An important reason for choosing the Weidemann was the long reach of the telescopic arm. “This allows us to get well over the sides of the trucks”, says Danny Hemkens, Department Manager at GTL (Garten- und Tiefbaubetriebe Lindau). Incidentally, the 5080T also provides support at various events: For example, several large concrete blocks had to be erected as a counter-terrorism measure when several well-known politicians and celebrities came to the island of Lindau for the reopening of the Inselhalle (conference and event hall). “These blocks weigh around 2.5 metric tons”, as Danny Hemkens knows, “you really need a strong working machine for that”. The blocks need to be removed after the event so that they can be used again elsewhere.

Weidemann Hoftrac 1160 im Einsatz

1160 – perfect for narrow hiking and bicycle tracks.

Since 2018, the 1160 from Weidemann has strengthened the Lindauer team. The versatile Hoftrac® is perfect for the narrow footpaths and bicycle tracks. Along with the Weidemann seller Marcus Leuthold from Weidemann distributor Landtechnik Kremler, the Swabians tried out, which Hoftrac® model could be suitable. The loader is also used for the repair of hiking and bicycle tracks in the city area and for snow clearing and gritting. It should be as stable as possible, but at the same time driving on the narrow tracks should be possible. “The challenge is not only the tracks alone, but also the bollards and lanterns, some of which are in the middle of the tracks”, tells Marcus Leuthold, “We have tried out several versions and even changed the tires on site – until it suited”. The compact machine quickly became an important helper in the municipality.

The 1160 also exploits its strengths at many small construction sites in the historic old town of the island: Several places cannot be reached by car, let alone by large construction machines. In this case, the small Weidemann can earn many plus points. “We want to be the pioneers of this loading technology in the region. Once we have gained enough experience, I would like to recommend the Weidemann machines to my colleagues from the neighbouring depots”, narrates Danny Hemkens.
