Convincing along all lines!
v.l.n.r.: Volker Bammann (D. MEHRTENS Maschinentechnik GmbH) zusammen mit Herwig Bülau und den Weidemann Maschinen 1160 und 3070 CXT.
Herwig Bülau has a dairy farm in Lower Saxony Kutenholz (Groß Aspe).
His parents bought the farm in 1964, and in 1988 Herwig Bülau took over the operation after his parents. At the time this was 40 ha of land and different old buildings with close to 30 cows. Herwig Bülau continuously expanded and extended the farm – today it encompasses approx. 140 ha, divided into 70 ha maize, 5 ha grain, 10 ha agricultural grass and 55 ha grassland. The stables were also extended and modernised over the past years. In addition to dairy cattle he operates a 75 kW biogas plant.
The farm currently comprises 250 cows with own breeding. Herwig Bülau’s cows produce an average of 11,000 kg of milk per year, which speaks for excellent herd management. This performance is not without reason: the operation employs, beside Herwig Bülau and his family, two external employees, two apprentices and the father-in-law. And the Weidemann machines also contribute their share to a smooth daily routine.
Herwig Bülau drives Weidemann on his farm since 2012. As the farm is now rather large, different tasks ensued – so he directly bought two Weidemann machines. One larger 3070 CXT and one compact 1160.
The 3070 CXT assumes the heavy works that accrue, such as filling the mixer-wagon with the silage bucket or the transport and stacking of different straw bales. The machine with its telescopic arm is ideally suitable for this. Furthermore, a feeder wheel pushes the feed forward daily to continuously animate the cows to eat. The fact that the machine works every day can be seen from the approx. 1,000 operating hours it runs per year. Wherever compact dimensions and high level of manoeuvrability are required, the 1160 is employed. With a width of 1.28 m and a height of 2.24 m it is predestined for this. On Herwig Bülau’s farm he takes over all works accruing in the stables. Especially the cubicles are regularly sprinkled with a bedding device. Thanks to the chamfered shovel edge the material can be taken up directly by the bedding device and subsequently sprinkled into the cubicle, without the need of the operator getting down from the machine. This saves time. The 1160, in combination with different attachments, also shows its strengths with accruing farm cleaning works – a real multitool!
Both Weidemann machines are equipped with Euro receptacles, meaning that many attachments can be used across machines. Herwig Bülau speaks of his two Weidemann machines: “We used to have several other loaders in use on our farm, but we were never really happy with them, that is why, after several presentations in 2012, we immediately decided on two Weidemann machines. Since then, we are very satisfied with the 1160, the 3070 CXT and the service of our dealer”.
