The 1880 as a summit striker.
At 1,780 m above Garmisch-Partenkirchen, on the summit of Mount Wank, lies the Wankhaus of the German Alpine Association (DAV).
This traditional mountain hut is run by Martina Simon and her total of six employees, who cater for the physical well-being of the locals and the numerous tourists all year round. Her partner Max Gröbl also lives and works at the Wankhaus. It was he who became interested in a powerful Weidemann 1880 in 2016. In the meantime, the machine has over 800 operating hours and is in daily use.
Especially in the winter months, when there can be over 4.60 m of snow on the Wank at peak times, the 1880 is in use up to 7 hours a day. To be able to clear away the masses of snow with the Weidemann, Martina Simon has a shovel and a snow blade. In the future, an additional snow blower will follow. Before the Weidemann came to the Wank, this work was laboriously done by hand. The owners were particularly impressed by the engine pre-heating. This means that the machine is quickly and reliably ready for use on cold winter days, and the thinner air on the mountain is no problem for the combustion engine.
Means of transport? Helicopter!
Even in the summer months, it's hard to imagine the Wank without the 18-series loader. "There is absolutely nothing to complain about with this machine. We are absolutely satisfied. It was an ideal purchase," Max Gröbl says proudly. He and his son are the ones who drive the machine the most. Equipped with a pallet fork, the Weidemann transports food and drinks in mesh boxes, which are delivered to the mountain station by cable car and then brought to the mountain hut by the machine. Other goods, such as beer and wood, are then delivered to the Wankhaus by helicopter every four weeks. The delivery of the Weidemann was also done with the help of a helicopter. Within five minutes, the 1880 had arrived safely from the valley on the Wank.
"Martl One" in action.
The hoftrac is affectionately called "Martl One" by the landlady and her partner. Martl is derived from Martina and shows that the Weidemann has almost become a member of the family. The 1880 is equipped with a high-flow system, hand throttle and a powerful engine.
